Track
01: First demoed in March 1993, "Island Of Lost Souls"
was one of the first songs Gene
Simmons demoed for the studio album which would follow KISS
"Revenge".
Track 02 : "Carnival Of Souls" may have been an
offshoot of the earlier demo "Island
Of Lost Souls". The song would be written around November
1993.
"Carnival Of Souls" was demoed during the recording sessions for the
"Carnival Of Souls" album that finally saw the light of day in ’97, but it did not end up on the album. A little later, it was also
demoed during the recording sessions for the album that would become
"Psycho Circus" in ’98. But again it did not make the album.
For Gene Simmons 2004 solo album
"Asshole", Gene recycled
"Carnival Of Souls" and invited Ritchie Kotzen to play guitar, while Gene’s son Nicholas sings backing vocals in the chorus along with his friend Chris Parrish plus his father.
On the 2004 version Gene Simmons– who admits he stole the instrumental part from the song
"7 & 7" by a band called Love – plays bass whereas the drum tracks were done by a drum computer.
Track 03: "Rain Keeps Fallin'" first appeared on one
of Gene Simmons "1992
demo's".
This version is written in September 1993.
With different lyrics
it's not clear if it was demoed or simply a lyric.
Track 04 - 06 : After KISS "Revenge", Gene Simmons and
Jesse Damon continued their writing-relationship. These songs
are recorded in the studio with Gene Simmons (bass), Jesse Damon
(guitars), Eric Singer (drums) and Kevin Valentine (drums).
Track 07 ; "Vengeance Is Mine" is demoed early 1994.
