new guy’ on the Revenge album. BraveWords.com caught up with the
veteran drummer (who is gearing up to hit the road with the band on
their The Tour with MÖTLEY CRÜE) for his comments on the album that
started his career with the band.

Legendary Rock Interview with producer/engineer/mixer Toby Wright
(Alice In Chains, KISS, Slayer,Korn,)
From:
www.legendaryrockinterviews.com
Toby Wright has been in and around recording studios for over 30
years. He started off by becoming an expert and go to guy for fixing
the equipment and along the way kept his eyes and ears open and made
the necessary adjustments towards the jobs of engineer, mixer and
producer. He has worked closely and learned more about artists such
as Alice in Chains, KISS, Metallica and others than most journalists
will ever hope to but none of that really matters to him. You get
the sense from talking with Toby that he is as passionate about
music and song crafting as the most dedicated artist or devoted fan.
We talked to Toby about his current projects and his involvement in
the creation of many of your all-time favorite artist’s albums.
(KRR : in this interview there's a big part reserved on KISS
"Carnival of Souls" sessions.)

KISS - 20 Years Of Revenge Part IV - Bruce Kulick interview From:
Mitch Lafon / Bravewords.com
May 19th, 2012 will marked the 20th anniversary of the brilliant
KISS Revenge album.
BraveWords.com will mark the passing of this landmark record
with a five part series of interviews conducted in the last couple
of weeks with the major players on the disc as well as a few
musicians that you may not know took part in the album’s recording
sessions.
Our first three parts focused on the lesser known heroes of KISS’
greatest non-makeup album. In this, our fourth installment, we
switch our attention to guitarist, Bruce Kulick, who had a long
tenure with KISS and is still revered by the fans. BraveWords.com
caught up with the veteran guitarist (and current member of GRAND
FUNK RAILROAD) to discuss his work on KISS’ classic, Revenge.

KISS - 20 Years Of Revenge Part III - Dick Wagner interview From:
Mitch Lafon / Bravewords.com
May 19th, 2012 will marked the 20th anniversary of the brilliant

Our third such surprise is guitarist, Dick Wagner. Like Tommy Thayer
and Kevin Valentine before him, Revenge marked Dick’s second
appearance on a KISS album (having played on the band’s seminal
album, Destroyer). Wagner has always been a go-to-guy for producer
Bob Ezrin and made a name for himself as part of Alice Cooper’s
original Welcome To My Nightmare album and tour. BraveWords.com
caught up with the veteran guitarist to talk about his chance
involvement on KISS’ classic Revenge album.
He’s also recently released an autobiography, Not Only Women Bleed.

Records signs Kobra & The Lotus. From:

Simmons/Universal Records is proud to announce the signing of
Kobra & The Lotus.
There is more metal per square inch on their debut album, as the
Gods in heaven can endure. Led by Kobra Paige, who writes and
performs the songs, this band will destroy all in its path. Kobra &
The Lotus are currently touring Europe, opening for the likes of
Judas Priest and Guns N' Roses, as well as playing all the major
Euro Festivals.
From:
blabbermouth.net
Canadian female-fronted metal band KOBRA AND THE LOTUS will release
its new album in the U.K. on August 6. The CD's first single,
"Forever One", will precede the full-length effort on May 28. A
video for the song will make its online debut on Monday, May 21.
KOBRA AND THE LOTUS last year inked a deal with KISS
bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons' revived Simmons Records label via a
partnership with Universal Music Canada. Simmons confirmed the
signing on his Twitter profile, calling KOBRA AND THE LOTUS "real
metal."
KOBRA AND THE LOTUS' debut album, "Out Of The Pit", produced by
Kevin Shirley, was launched in March 2010. In the following 16
months, the band performed 168 gigs, across five countries,
including seven festival stages. The second album was produced by
Kevin Churko (FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, OZZY OSBOURNE), along with
Julius "Juice" Butty. A video for the song "Welcome To My Funeral"
points to an undisputed evolution in the band; the music is
stronger, meaner and heavier.
"Touring for 'Out Of The Pit' had a huge influence on us in terms of
realizing which direction we wanted the new music to take," says
singer Brittany Paige. "We really wanted to create new music that
would portray the large amount of energy we put forward in a live
performance."
May 18 : Ace
Frehley Blasts ‘Black Diamond’ with Pearl Jam Guitarist From:
ultimateclassicrock.com
Original Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley took the stage on Tuesday (May
15) to perform his former band’s classic song ‘Black Diamond’ with
Flight to Mars, a UFO cover band lead by Pearl Jam guitarist Mike
McCready.
It’s certainly a cool “WTF?” moment. The only thing more unusual
than the idea of a UFO tribute band featuring a grunge rock
millionaire covering a Kiss song would have been if Frehley appeared
on stage in full Kiss regalia: makeup, boots and more!
That said, we’ve gotta throw props to McCready and to the more
casually attired Frehley, who turn in a pretty kicking rendition of
the song, performing on the tiny stage of the Casbah in San Diego,
Calif. (Editor’s note: How is it that nobody ever thinks to cover
‘Back in the USSR‘ from the Beatles there? The place is right at the
end of the airport runway, you get the necessary introductory plane
sounds every 30 minutes.)
Flight to Mars are on tour through May 23, with proceeds benefit
Camp Oasis for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America’s and
Advocacy for Patients With Chronic Illness. McCready suffers from
Cohn’s, so it’s a cause that means quite a bit to him.

KISS - 20 Years Of Revenge Part II - Kevin Valentine From:
Mitch Lafon / Bravewords.com
May 19th, 2012 will mark the 20th anniversary of the brilliant
KISS Revenge album.
BraveWords.com will mark the passing of this landmark record
with a five part series of interviews conducted in the last couple
of weeks with the major players on the disc as well as a few
musicians that you may not know took part in the album’s recording
sessions.
Our second such surprise is drummer, Kevin Valentine (DONNIE IRIS &
THE CRUISERS). Like Tommy Thayer before him, Revenge was Kevin’s
second appearance on a KISS album (having come in to cut the drums
for the track ‘Take It Off’). His drum work can first be found on
the track ‘You Love Me To Hate You’ from the band’s 1989 Hot In The
Shade album. After Revenge, Kevin continued as a ghost musician for
KISS playing on the entire Psycho Circus album save for one track
(Into The Void) and before the recording of that album, he served as
Peter Criss’ drum coach on 3-D Psycho Circus tour that came on the
heels of the highly successful 1996 Reunion tour.
Kevin has kept quiet over the years about his involvement with KISS,
but in this exclusive interview with BraveWords.com, he finally
breaks his silence.
May 1 : DAZ
OF OZ covers "Love Her All I Can" - free download From:
dazofoz.com / Darren Grant
/
Kiss Related Recordings
Darren Grant just released an album with his new project DAZ OF OZ
entitled "Daz Of Oz 1".
The album contains a cover version of the KISS classic "Love Her All
I Can", and is (only) available as a
free download.
DAZ OF OZ began as a solo project that grew into much much more.
Australia born Darren Grant was previously the lead
vocalist/guitarist of the hard rock band “Eruption” (signed to U.K
label Escape Music LTD) that nearly broke through with their 2009
debut album "All Screwed Up" but fell victim of an untimely band
breakup. So Darren set about recording a backlog of songs. Calling
upon the services of session drummer Marty Smith, and some previous
band members and guests for bass guitar duties, they hit the
recording studio. The aim was to go against the modern
"over-produced" sound and achieve an honest and organic sounding
hard rock album, with the sonic bench mark of AC/DC's "Back In
Black".
No triggered drum sounds, auto tuning or modern studio tricks were
used, just real drums, real singing and real guitars. The songs are
quite varied in style, ranging from good ol’ 80’s arena rock to a
more crafted work, but rest assured it’s all energetic rock with not
even one ballad to be found.
A great cover version of the slightly more obscure KISS classic
"Love Her All I Can" was added and fits in really nicely with the
flow of the album.
Darren used every last dime he had to make this album, but instead
of negotiating a new record deal, he was to go against the grain
once again. He decided to test the statement "the foolish things
confound the wise" and make the album a "free download" for anyone
to own.
May 1 :
KISS - 20 Years Of Revenge Part I - Tommy Thayer interview From:
Mitch Lafon / Bravewords.com
May 19th, 2012 will mark the 20th anniversary of the brilliant
KISS Revenge album. BraveWords.com will mark the passing of this
landmark record with a five-part series of interviews conducted in
the last couple of weeks with the major players on the disc as well
as a few musicians that you may not know took part in the album’s
recording sessions. Our first such surprise is Tommy Thayer. Many
may know Tommy as the current Spaceman of KISS, but back in 1992, he
was Gene Simmons’ protégé and former guitarist for the band BLACK N’
BLUE. Tommy’s role on the album was limited to adding backing vocals
on a few tracks along with his former Black N’ Blue singer, Jaime
St. James. Revenge would mark Tommy’s second appearance on a KISS
album. He had previously contributed two acoustic tracks to the
band’s Hot In The Shade opus. Thayer’s song ‘Nasty Nasty’ from the
Black N’ Blue album of the same name formed the basis of the Gene
Simmons composition, ‘Domino’ on the Revenge album. BraveWords.com
caught up with Tommy via email as KISS preps to head out on the road
in support of their new album, Monster.
“I was there during some of the recording and I sang background
vocals on a bunch of those tunes,” said Thayer when asked about his
work on Revenge.
When asked about the song 'Domino' and his general impression of the
album, Thayer replied, “the song 'Domino' and the Revenge album were
great. It’s definitely my favorite album from the non-makeup
1980-90s KISS.” When asked why he added: “The reason is that it was
the most cohesive record. All the songs fit together and made a
singular statement and that's hard to do unless you have someone
driving the process like producer, Bob Ezrin. Bob definitely had the
band's ear and drove the recording process with great arrangements
and song selection.”
Though the album marked a brilliant return to form for the band and
drove fans back to the fold, the album failed to reach significant
chart success. Thayer offered his thoughts: “The Revenge album would
have done so much better commercially if it hadn't been released in
the era of 1992. By that time ‘80s hard rock was on the backside of
the curve and entire new style of rock music was coming into vogue.
It was bad timing for a great song like ‘Every Time I Look At You’
which a couple years earlier would have probably been a top ten
single.”
Keep your eyes on
bravewords.com for the second part of this special five part
series... coming soon!
