July 29 : Swedish
Sleaze Bands cover 'Crazy Crazy Nights' online
From:
crazynightsstockholm
/ Chris Laney
Ealier this year KRR collection mentioned here that some Swedish bands have got together to record and make
a video for Kiss' Crazy Crazy Nights song.
Now you can hear their "We Are The World / Stars" style
cover of "Crazy Crazy Nights", which is posted online at
Crazy
Nights Stockholm MySpace page.
February 29, 2008 Zan Clan and Animal member Chris Laney posted the following
information about this collaboration at his MySpace
page:
WOW.... I never thought I'd say this, but the studio smelled
like a mix of Piss, Booze and more Piss today hahaha.
The Stockholm based club "Crazy Nights" made a recording
of KISS song "Crazy Crazy Nights"...of coz!
To help them out (go figure how much all the bands love these
guys) they got help to perform the song from people of bands like:
Crashdiet, Crucified Barbara, Glorious Bankrobbers, Babylon Bombs,
Zan Clan, Sister sin, Mama Kin, Foxey, Gemini Five, Dynazty,
Swedish Erotica, Treat, and many many more
The whole thing was shot for a video and "making of".
Don't get me wrong...but how cool is it to have all these guys
doing it just for fun, no "we are the world"...just for
meeting, drinking, laughing and singing!!!!
I am thrilled to have been involved in this, cool shit.
And my hat goes off to Dave and Nikki at Crazy Nights club who by
the way are turning 2 years old today !!!!

Also appearing on the tribute are former Adler's Appetite vocalist Sheldon Tarsha, former Alice Cooper guitarist Ryan Roxie, former Altaria bassist Marko Pukkila and current White Lion drummer Troy Patrick Farrell, who have collaborated on a new recording of the Vinnie Vincent Invasion power ballad "That Time of Year." Additional contributors include guitarist Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans Siberian Orchestra), guitarist/keyboardist Paul LaPlaca (Zandelle, Z02, Chris Caffery solo band) and drummer Dennis Leeflang (Sun Caged, Epica, Bumblefoot solo band), who will offer up a dark interpretation of the foreboding Kiss track "Unholy." Also confirmed is a new recording of the Vinnie Vincent Invasion anthem "Boyz Are Gonna Rock" by Mike Weeks, guitarist on the most recent solo album by original Invasion vocalist Robert Fleischman, along with former Nitro bassist T.J. Though Vinnie Vincent himself has not released any new material in over a decade, "KISS MY ANKH" will pay tribute to the undeniable musical legacy of the former Kiss guitarist. Vinnie's compositions are widely regarded as a highlight of the Kiss catalog and remain a staple of the live Kiss set list. Included on the tribute will be selections from the three Kiss albums to which Vinnie contributed, as well as the two albums he released with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Further details can be found at the SplitScreen Entertainment website.

July 24 : Bruce
Kulick In Russian Artist Sapgir Band Video
From:
Kulick.net
A few months ago I told you all about a session I did for a popular Russian artist, Sapgir Band. Well, they used footage of my session in the video for the song, and here
is it to enjoy.
From:
Sapgir.com
In late April 2008 Dmitri Sapgir, his wife Natasha, manager Alexander "Al Bone"
Novikov, studio Liga's chief Alexey Demrntiev and musicians of the band -
Alexander Chekushkin and Julia Khovrenkova - visited Los Angeles by invitation of
Hollywood World Studios chief Christian Ray Flores. The plan was to record some
vocals and guitars on the new, made-in-Hollywood, album "Lapse Of Time" produced
by legendary Curt Cuomo (Kiss, Edgar Winter, Eddie Money, Union, etc.) and to
shoot three videos and promo video about the group. During the past six months in
his Woodland Ranch studio, Curt Cuomo recorded the album with some of the best
musicians in the the entertainment business. The album consists of some of the
latest songs written by Dmitry Sapgir.
The line up is: Bruce Kulick (Kiss, Union, Blackjack, Meat Loaf, etc.) - guitar,
Kenny Aronoff (The Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Seger, Jon Bon Jovi, Elton John, Bob
Dylan, Rod Stewart, Alanis Morissette, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Puddle of Mudd, Avril
Lavigne, Joe Cocker, Alice Cooper, etc.) - drums, Gary Novak (Alanis Morissette,
Ozzy Osbourne, George Benson, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, etc.) - drums, Matt Laud
(Christina Aguilera, Cher, The Corrs, Eddie Money, Alice Cooper, Donna Summer,
Slash's Snakepit, etc.) -drums, James Zota Baker (War, The James Baker Band,
Arco Iris, Libido, Betty s Got a Secret, Edgar Winter, etc.) - guitar, Melvin
Brannon Jr (Babyface, Dan Reed Network, Edgar Winter, etc.) - bass, Matt
Bisonette (Ringo Starr, Julian Lennon, David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, Don Henley,
ELO, etc.) - bass.
Curt loves Dmitri's voice, lyrics, melodies and style. He called Dmitry the
Russian Bob Dylan. And Dmitri didn't disappoint him. Three days of video shots
directed by award winning director Lance Tracy were a lot of work and fun for the
band. According to the script of one of the videos for the song "Running For My
Life" Dmitri is running away from a bunch of sexy top model type dolls and a
black 1956 Chevy down the wet streets with frying cans and fading lights around,
stood on stage for the hours looking for his True Love Girl and - for another
video - was out in the fake rain together with the band.

July 23 : Interview With Peppy Castro
From:
rockpages.gr
We continue our year-long KISS special article with the 14th interview with a
KISS-related figure. This week we publish an interview with Peppy Castro, a KISS’ collaborator/co-
songwriter. Here’s an excerpt:
Rockpages.gr: You did background vocals on "Ain’t Quite Right" and "Hold Me,
Touch Me". What do you remember from these recordings?
Peppy Castro: Paul and I had always a great time together. We were hanging out in
L.A. and I had a musical I wrote at a theatre in Beverly Kills and Paul would
come to the show almost every day. The studio was always fun.
Rockpages.gr: I know that Paul also sang background vocals on the first Balance record…
Peppy Castro: Paul never had a chance to sing anything like this! Those
background harmonies were unique to him, because KISS’ songs were so heavy. He
loved singing something so melodic and soft for once.

Related Recordings
Recently KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons has reportedly told Classic Rock magazine that the English newspaper The Mail On Sunday will give away a KISS "greatest-hits" CD featuring re-recorded versions of some of the band's best-known classics.
Now a few weeks later it seems that this did not happen, BUT :
A KISS "best-of" collection, "Kiss Best - Kissology", is scheduled for a release in Japan on August 27, 2008 via DefSTAR
Records ((DFCP-58), a subsidiary of Sony Music Japan. The limited-edition version
(DFCP-56) of the CD — which will feature the re-recorded versions of the band's classics completed with the group's current lineup (including guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer) — will also contain a bonus DVD featuring footage of KISS' April 2, 1977 concert at Budokan (taken from "Kissology Vol. 1") plus a bonus
sticker .
The DVDs are region-2 encoded (Japan, Europe, and Middle East), and carry no subtitles.
Tracklist Kiss Best - Kissology (Re-Recorded Classics)
01. Deuce
02. Detroit Rock City

In a recent interview with Rockpages.gr, KISS drummer Eric Singer confirmed that KISS had re-recorded some of the band's
earliest hits. He stated, "You know that many bands re-record songs so as to have the control over the copyrights. For example, if someone asks for a KISS tune, the band doesn't have to get into a bureaucracy with the record label. It is very convenient."

July 1 : KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent
update
From:
SplitScreenEntertainment.com
Six additional musicians have been confirmed for the upcoming tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent."
Guitarist/keyboardist Paul LaPlaca (Zandelle, Z02, Chris Caffery solo band) has been tapped to contribute a dark interpretation of the foreboding Kiss track "Unholy." Chris Caffery himself (Savatage, Trans Siberian Orchestra) will perform the guitar solo with drums provided by Dennis Leeflang (Sun Caged, Epica, Bumblefoot solo band). Penned by Vinnie Vincent and Gene Simmons, the song is one of three Vincent co-writes to appear on Kiss' "Revenge" album from 1992, nearly a decade after his departure from the band.
Also confirmed for the tribute is a new recording of the Vinnie Vincent Invasion anthem "Boyz Are Gonna Rock" by Mike Weeks, guitarist on the most recent solo album by original Invasion vocalist Robert Fleischman. Joining Weeks on the track are former Nitro bassist T.J. Racer and drummer Andre LaBelle, who appeared alongside Fleischman on the unreleased third Vinnie Vincent album "Guitars from Hell."
The abovementioned join the previously announced Steve Brown (Trixter, Stereo Fallout), whose acoustic rendition of the Paul Stanley/Vinnie Vincent composition "A Million To One" recently premiered on Eddie Trunk's nationally syndicated Friday Night Rocks radio program. Also appearing on the tribute are former Adler's Appetite vocalist Sheldon Tarsha, former Alice Cooper guitarist Ryan Roxie, former Altaria bassist Marko Pukkila and current White Lion drummer Troy Patrick Farrell, who have collaborated on a new recording of the Vinnie Vincent Invasion power ballad "That Time of Year." Samples of both songs are available at the official "KISS MY ANKH"
MySpace
page.
Additional artists and track listings will be announced as they are confirmed. Further details can be found at the SplitScreen Entertainment website.
