Stream of the
Month : TRIGGER
(discovered by Gene Simmons)
From:
Rock
Candy Records
Rock Candy Records is proud to announce that it will reissue the long sought after -
and never before available on CD - self titled debut album from cult seventies US rock band Trigger.
Originally issued on the legendary Casablanca label in 1978, this album has been a hard rock
collector’s favorite; for years a perennial top 3 title in virtually every reissue wish list published
in on-line forums and beyond.
Release date is set for August 2009.
Trigger, a New Jersey based four piece, were discovered by Gene Simmons of Kiss who helped sign them
to the Casablanca label.
Their sole major label album was issued slap bang in the middle of the disco era resulting in low
sales but attracting huge critical acclaim. As contagious a collection of loud & anthemic, no frills
riff rockers you’ll ever likely hear, the bands music combines the the best elements of groups such as
Starz, Teaze, Kiss, The Babys and Piper.
This reissue is also perfectly timed for the band’s recently announced reformation.
All three surviving members will be playing a reunion show in New Jersey this August.
As it has become standard with all Rock Candy reissues, ‘Trigger’ will be digitally remastered from
original source tapes, contain a 16 page booklet with fresh authorative 4,000 word essay from Dave
Reynolds, rare photos and memorabilia with full band involvement.

From:

"KISS has seen a bit of a sales spike, no doubt due to their appearance on American Idol on
Wednesday May 20. As of this morning, 'Rock And Roll All Nite' is No. 12 on iTunes' Top Rock Songs list, with 'Beth' at No. 22 and 'Detroit Rock City' at No. 52.
Over at Amazon, The Very Best Of KISS compilation is No. 1 in the Hard Rock & Metal / Pop Metal Bestsellers category. Other KISS albums charting as of this morning are Alive! (No. 23), Destroyer (No. 29), Creatures Of The Night (No. 41), Gold (No. 56), Dressed To Kill (No. 59), Rock The Nation DVD (No. 60), Lick It Up (No. 62), GENE SIMMONS (No. 67), ACE FREHLEY (No. 71), and Greatest KISS (No. 82).
As of 2008, iTunes is the No. 1 retailer of music in the United States; Amazon is the No. 4 retailer . Whether the "Idol" effect will translate over to the Billboard Top Pop Catalog chart remains to be seen."
As previously reported, KISS played to one of the biggest crowds in their career when they performed Wednesday night, May 20th, on the season finale of American Idol. According to TV By The Numbers, the finale was viewed by an average of 28.8 million viewers.
Fnalist Adam Lambert sang the KISS classic 'Beth' as he vied for the American Idol crown. After his cover version, he surprised the crowd by saying, 'ladies and gentleman, KISS,' who then stormed on-stage and performed their classics 'Detroit Rock City' and 'Rock And Roll All Nite' with Lambert singing along!

May 22 : Gene Simmons - "Rotten To The Core"
with LITA FORD
From:
kissfaq.com
"Rotten To The Core" has been a song title that Gene Simmons has messed around with for decades. An early 1975/6
version surfaced following the Kiss Butterfields auction, though while it never made it on to a Kiss album Gene
didn't let the lyric go.
In 1989 it was purported that the title would appear on the band's "Hot In The Shade"
album, since Gene and Bruce Kulick had worked on the song (Gene used the lyric on his "Nobody's Perfect" demo
around 1984/5).
Bruce felt that the song was wrong for Kiss' sort of attitude at the time and it was
dropped from consideration for the album. Gene continued to try and place the song with other artists, without success, and he
recorded another version of the song with members of Silent Rage in 1991.
The song was considered again for Kiss' "Psycho Circus" album in 1998, and has been mentioned by Gene as a candidate for the new 2009 album.
However, here's yet another version with Lita Ford on vocals!

May 16 : Succession
- A 30th Anniversary Tribute to Dynasty update
From:
www.dynastytribute.net
/ KISS Fan Tributes - Mikel Black
On August 1st, 2009 "Succession - A 30th Anniversary Tribute to Dynasty" will be released as a digital-download album, via iTunes, Amazon, Napster, CD Baby etc..
The "Succession" album artwork, designed by Anthony Tyler was revealed today and our
website
has been re-vamped to match the album concept. Although we can't use the KISS makeup designs due to trademark laws, eagle-eyed fans (or anyone who owned the original vinyl version of Dynasty) should recognise the source of the photo used as the basis for the artwork.
Recording has been completed on 2 of the 9 tracks and the others are progressing nicely. We're really hoping to not only satisfy Kiss fans with this album, but reach out to a wider audience. Hence many of the tracks have a contemporary, 21st century feel.

May 16 : Bruce
Kulick "
BK3" Studio blog update
From:
Bruce
Kulick / Kulick.net (studioblog, Day 48)
Final touches on recordings are always fun. The final spices to the recipe of the song, or the dish you are creating. I forgot to mention the addition of a funny bicycle horn, and sport whistles on my day 47. I have to say, I got the horn for my campers at the Fantasy Camp, and Steven Tyler even picked it up when he came to my rehearsal room. He got the joke, but the end of my song "Life" is supposed to be very carnival sounding. The addition of sounds like whistles and the bike horn, added with flute, violin, various percussion instruments and guitars riffing away left and right are the collage of sounds I was looking for to end that song. Tim Cashion, my keyboard player from Grand Funk, recorded lots of instruments in his home studio that really saved me time. Through the magic of Pro Tools, we dropped them in, and added another
tamborine and shaker and horn and whistle. I have to admit, regarding whistles, I don't know how the referees blow them. I was out of breath!
Next was singing, which is never as easy for me. I was fortunate enough to have some help with my producers good friend Cliff Calabro. I have known Cliff for many years, and even rehearsed at his parents home in The Bronx, when he was a young boy when I had my club cover band back in 1975. His brother and he were KISS crazy at the time, and even had a bass drum with KISS written on it. So for years later to have him see me in LA when I joined the band, was a very funny coincident. He became friends with Jeremy at some point and of course we all have known each other well since the late nineties. Cliff is a great singer, and he was patient waiting on me doing the hard parts of the song "Life" before he was going to jump in to do the backgrounds.
After about an hour, I zoned in on the vocals, and we were ready for the sweetening. Cliff sounded great and we fooled around looking at the strings that were recorded. We actually even moved a section up sooner in the arrangement, as the song felt SO good with the quartet. Jeremy wrote my favorite chart for this song. Totally George Martin, and he nailed it when I said, "give me that style, I know it will be perfect for the song". So "Life" a song that will be quite a surprise to you all, is finally finished. And waiting and perfecting it was worth the wait for
sure.

May 13 : Ed Kanon
interview (replaced Peter Criss for a night in 1997)
From:
Rockpages.gr
Rockpages.gr continues their year-long KISS special feature with
an interview of a KISS-related figure. This week it's Ed
Kanon (Peter’s drum technician).
Rockpages.gr: You were in the very distinguished place –back in the April of 1997- to replace Peter behind the drums for the KISS concert in Columbus. Describe to us the whole experience and especially your feelings after the end of “Deuce”…
Ed Kanon: Well, it went really fast. We (the crew) were all set up, ready for the band to do sound check, and we noticed they weren’t even in the building yet. We waited, and waited, and waited. Then the vans pull in. The band gets out, and heads to the dressing rooms. I notice there was no Peter. HHHHMMMMMM?????????? Doc (McGhee) walks up to me and says “Nice Goatee, SHAVE IT!!!!!!”. Then says “Come on, we have to go to the dressing room” The first thing I thought was “Is Peter ok?” I got kind of scared. We walk into the dressing room. Paul is sitting there and says “We have good news, and bad news. Bad news is, Peter can’t do the show. Good news is, you are.”

May 8 : Bruce
Kulick "
BK3" Studio blog update
From:
Bruce
Kulick / Kulick.net (studioblog, Day 47)
Well it has been a long time since I have actually recorded for BK3 due to my schedule this year.
Since the first 6 songs were finished and mixed mid January, I have done various Grand Funk shows,
went to Europe with ESP for three weeks, and did a KISS expo, rehearsed and performed in Vegas for the
Monster Circus, went directly to Australia for guitar clinics and then right back on the road with
Grand Funk, and finally did a week at the Fantasy Camp here in LA. Phew. So you see I am blessed with
gigging work but that makes it hard for me to book studio time.
Sometimes, work was done which is not worth reporting, as in Jeremy cleaning files and getting the
remaining songs ready for the final touches. Last night was finally real studio work, as we needed to
add some percussion and most importantly have me sing the song "Life" again. We both agreed that my
best was not achieved yet. Fortunately it wasn't too difficult and we got all the verses rather
quickly.
Today I work again and get the B sections of the song. There is no real chorus in the song. The entire
song as far as I am concerned is so catchy and memorable the way it feels is like your favorite shoes.
Strange analogy but true. We have strings on this track that are so Beatles perfect and I just love
the entire sentiment of the song. So this is our next to the last tune to get ready to be mixed. Two
others are finished and in the process to have final mixes this weekend.
